sadly, I didn't love it.

Raven was a watered down version of the Raven I know and love. She LITERALLY says "I'm not like other girls" on page and I wanted to fling my phone across the room. And Beast Boy lacked personality and development. He literally was down bad for Raven the second they were both in the same room. Like hold up ma dude you were JUST whipped over some other girl (i forgot her name). I really wished they would've developed their relationship a bit more because it felt so rushed. The reason I love the relationship of Raven and Beast boy is because of how long it took for Raven to actually show her feelings towards Beast boy. And I know these characters aren't technically the same as the OG. But the thing is that book 1 Raven and this Raven feel so different to me, IDK why.

I don't know if theres going to be more books in this series. But, I would be down to see more of the Robin character.

Also, I know og Raven wouldn't be caught dead wearing those cheesy ass shirts lmao!! ~world off, music on~ pleeeaaassseee she would be rockin band shirts and leather jackets. I was robbed.

damn this review is a mess but so is this book so it's okay lmao.

It's taken 3 books but the series finally seems to be headed somewhere. I really liked the addition of Damian Wayne. The romance in this book though can be so cheesy. Everyone falls in love at first sight and the dialogue when it comes to the romance is atrocious, although I'm sure tween girls will dig it. Gabriel Piccolo's art is fantastic. Paired with the muted color palette gives the book a very distinct look. One that keeps me coming back even when the writing gets cheesy. They're summoned to Nashville by the same mysterious man - and he is in cahoots with a villainess who wants said kids for their superpowers (that part reminded me a little bit of the 70's Disney live-action flicks Escape to Witch Mountain and Return to Witch Mountain - showing my age!) - which kicks off a tight adventure / suspense story that was good but sometimes goes tad overboard with its reliance on torture scenes victimizing the title teenage characters. Still, they are provided solid assistance in the latter half by Damian Wayne's Robin - refreshingly NOT depicted as the self-centered jerk per his usual M.O., but actually sort of altruistic here - when things really take a turn for the worse. Robin is also set to headline the next installment in this series later this year, and fans can only hope that eventually the Teen Titans will be assembled for a team-oriented book.

This series brought me so much nostalgia as Teen Titans was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid and I specially liked Raven so seeing her story in book format is awesome.

As usual, Gabriel did an outstanding job with the art-style and text. It just feels so clean and easy to read. I hate when comics and picture books are crammed and have small text and you don't know who is talking and this was the complete opposite with colored texts that are very easy to follow.

The story line is not complex

The story line is not complex and I think it is directed toward younger readers so it is not really a problem but I think Kami changed the vibes of the characters, I thought Raven should be a bit grumpier even if she fell in love. However, I still think it is cute!

I thought this would be the end of the series but from the ending apparently there is more and I will be reading it without a doubt.

From the outset it's important to note that this graphic novel is a reimagining of Beast Boy and Raven which stands separately and distinguishably from their comic counterparts. Personally, I think that was a strength of the graphic novel as it gave it breathing room to create new and relevant personalities for the characters tailored to the modern YA audience and construct different relationship dynamics between them all.

Personally, I think that was a strength of the graphic novel as it gave it breathing room to create new and relevant personalities for the characters tailored to the modern YA audience and construct different relationship dynamics between them all.

In terms of Beast Boy's and Raven's previously established personalities in Teen Titans: Raven and Teen Titans: Beast Boy, much of it seemed to be mellowed down in favour of speeding the plot along and cultivating their budding romance. Given the limited amount of pages I found that to be an understandable move from the author, but it was kind of strange to see Raven fall so quickly for Gar, a guy she knows nothing about, given her previous experiences with a bad boyfriend in Teen Titans: Raven.

I loved that Kami Garcia had a few tricks hidden up her sleeve. The surprise and instrumental appearance of certain characters and mention of others was much appreciated by me and really elevated this graphic novel to a place neither of the previous instalments in the series managed to reach with only their singular protagonists in play.

Of course, Picolo's art was as fabulous as ever and I loved David Calderon's colouring style; it worked well with the art style and was simplistic yet aesthetic.

And so, this was every bit worth the year-long wait. The only downside is having to wait once again to see more of this very interesting take on Damian Wayne when he appears again in Teen Titans: Robin.

Pre-reading thoughts: (26/08/2020)
Aah yes, here I am, yet again, adding more books to my TBR by Gabriel Picolo that aren't even out yet.

The jawline on the cover isn't quite as sharp as the one on Teen Titans: Beast Boy so I won't need any plasters and the title is a bit of a mouthful, but it still seems pretty cute. I can't wait for it!😍

Boy, do I need to get me an advanced reader copy for this one this time around...

Three books in, and we finally get something that looks like a group that could be called the Teen Titans. But it is assembled in a slow, meandering process that has left me pretty much done with this series.

And yet I found myself enthralled by the pages because Raven is such a goth cutie. It took me a while to realize that the artist is drawing her exactly like my childhood crush, Winona Ryder, even using some photo reference it seems:

So this is the third book in Garcia's Teen Titans graphic novels. One of my favorite elements of the teamwork between graphic design and storytelling are the little thought bubbles that each of the characters have. Yeah, this is pretty standard for graphic novels, but I still feel like I have to point it out. Knowing what Raven and Gar are thinking about each other while interacting with each other is such a lovely detail. Makes us feel closer to the characters.

I do feel like this story left a lot more up to question. I understand that this is a series, so it makes sense for this to happen. Yet, it does not stand alone as well as its predecessors do because very little new information was given to us as readers. It was more of filler if anything. Nonetheless, I still really enjoyed the dialogue and art. Always a delight.

This was such a fun graphic novel and totally what I needed after reading some high fantasy novels last month and this month. For this third novel in this series I really enjoyed a whole lot probally one of my favorites in this series!
The artwork was stunning and the stroyline was so easy to read and hard to put down I read it in one sitting so Idk why it took me so long to read it as I enjoyed it a whole lot. Five out of five stars!

A digital copy of this book was given to me from DC Comics in exchange for a free review. DC provided the visual assets for me to use in this blog as well. While they were gifted to me, they do not influence my personal review and reactions to the novel.

I have been following this journey for the past three years. To finally see these two characters get together in this novel became the epitome of this series. Not have these two characters grown in their own regard, they now get to form the team that we have all been waiting for. While the real dilemma is still unknown to the reader, Beast Boy Loves Raven has opened up a whole new plot and twist for this series to continue.

As both teens try to find where they belong in their ever changing worlds, they discover that things are more complicated than they seem. Someone knows their secret and is not afraid to use that knowledge against them and those they love.

While this follows a cliché meet-cute trope, this is the envisioned ship of Beast Boy and Raven that we have waited YEARS for.

We see both Raven and Beast Boy fight their own internal battles and make tough decisions. We see them try to stay apart, when the universe needs them to come together. We see their own friends come together to build a stronger team when things go awry.

This novel introduced new characters to the reader that provide for a lengthy series to come. This novel hinted at an established and refocused Teen Titans for readers. Remember how the individual novels crafted new origins? Well, in here, they only get stronger and bigger.

I don't want to give every details of every character we may possibly see in the future, but the hints were masterfully included within the graphics and storytelling.

Speaking of graphics, did you notice how flawless Gabriel Piccolo has continued to craft these characters?

I'll say it a thousand times, but when it comes to graphic novels, the art tells 50% of the story.

Kami and Gabriel are a champion tag-team in their ability to seamlessly craft each character's emotions, niche, and power.

Before, we only had these characters individually in a novel with their own powers, problems, and solutions. Now, both versions are converged into one while including the revelation of teamwork and understanding.

Make sure you check out Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven digitally or at participating book stores right now. Scroll back to the top of this post if you would like to check out my past reviews on each novel and give this one a like when you finish.

Out of all the DC novels I have had the pleasure of reviewing, this series has kept me on my toes the most and is the first I would recommend to any new discovering graphic novel reader.

Picolo's art and coloring are phenomenal as expected, but this story didn't grab me quite like Raven's and Gar's individual installments. I get that a lot needed to be accomplished in one edition, but the relationship was SO rushed. Still entertaining, though. And of course, I dug the Nashville setting! Even though I absolutely love the animated cartoon and think it's superior, I'm not one of those people who feels like an adaptation of something needs to be exactly the same which is a good thing because I can already tell that this graphic novel series will be different from the show.

As always, I love the art style and the way Gabriel depicts each of the characters and I love how through each volume we are getting to know the characters a little bit more and uncovering more about side characters as well. I think my one complaint (besides how short each volume is) is that I felt Raven and Beast Boy's relationship was a bit rushed. Don't get me wrong, I was all for them having feelings for each other but it felt a little sudden and I think it could've used more of a build up.

Other than that I really enjoyed this volume and I'm so excited to read the next one, especially since I have a feeling my girl Starfire will be next!

I've been a fan of the Teen Titans since I was a kid. I watched the OG show whenever I would go to my grandparents' houses. Being able to see my childhood twisted and morphed into a more modern setting really helps me see the characters in a new, mature light. I really like the additions of the characters new and old to the series as well.

I also loved the romance between Gar and Raven, but at times felt it was a bit too rushed. Usually in the show, Raven and Gar butt heads pretty often, but they still have that softness for each other. They still have that in the beginning, but it doesn't linger as much as I wish it would. It also felt rushed at times, which I get this is for a younger audience and is a graphic novel, but I still wish we got another installment before they really start to build up that romantic tension.

The plot was really good in that it wraps in most of the other Teen Titans members while also still connecting it to an overarching plot about Slade and his attempt to capture these superpowered teens.

Finally, I'm still a huge fan of the art style and design of the characters. It keeps to their original roots but with a modern twist, which aids in helping a younger and newer audience relate to the characters.

Regardless, I'm still super pumped for the rest of the series and cannot wait to see where Kami Garcia takes this. The Teen Titans series is a great introduction graphic novel series and superhero story that you can finish in one sitting.

Not bad but more of a mundane version - less whimsical and more juvenile. Which makes sense since she did grow up with a human mom and in foster care with human problems.
